5 Ways to Ensure Filler Results You’ll Love

Fillers are a popular cosmetic treatment for enhancing natural beauty. They’re quick and relatively painless and provide immediate results.
At Associated Skin Care Specialists, our skilled cosmetic dermatologists do all dermal filler injections so you get the best possible results. However, you have some control, too. We want to share some of the ways to ensure you get results you’ll love from your dermal fillers.
1. Choose an expert injector
Not all injectors have the same level of expertise. Many salons, spas, and doctor’s offices offer cosmetic injections, but that doesn’t mean they all have highly trained and skilled injectors. If you want safe and natural looking results from your fillers, choose an expert practitioner.
Our board-certified dermatologists are experts in skin and cosmetic dermatology and have advanced training and years of experience providing dermal fillers. They assess your unique needs and aesthetic goals to customize your filler treatment, using the right type and amount of filler to enhance your appearance without leaving you looking overdone.
2. Clearly state your goals
Fillers require medical precision and an aesthetic touch. While our expert injectors can enhance your look with fillers, they can’t create the look you love without your input. Before your initial appointment, write down your concerns and wishes and how you think fillers can help.
At your appointment, be open and honest in sharing your goals. We can’t change who you are with fillers, but we can help you feel more confident in how you look.
3. Follow pre-treatment guidelines
Although fillers don’t require surgery, they’re still a medical treatment that does require preparation. To ensure you get filler results you want, you need to follow the pre-injection guidelines you’ll receive.
For example, you need to avoid blood-thinning medication (aspirin) and supplements (garlic and fish oil) prior to injections to reduce the risk of bleeding. Our dermatologists can explain how best to alter your medication and supplement schedule for health and safety.
You also want to refrain from drinking alcohol for at least two days before your filler injections for the same reason. Alcohol also thins blood and may cause complications.
Good hydration and avoiding excess sun exposure are recommended prior to fillers for better post-treatment healing.
4. Prioritize aftercare
What you do after treatment can affect results, so it’s important to follow all aftercare instructions. We recommend avoiding any strenuous physical activity for up to 48 hours after injections to reduce the risk of bruising. And, use ice packs to manage post-treatment swelling and redness.
The length of filler results varies, but protecting your skin from the sun may help you keep your refreshed look longer. Apply sunscreen daily, especially those first few days, when your skin is most sensitive, and cover up with a wide-brimmed hat and large sunglasses.
5. Maintain results with touch-ups
Fillers are temporary, and results fade over time. Regular cosmetic injections can help maintain your look and prevent noticeable volume loss.
We want nothing more than to help you look and feel your best. If you want to ensure filler results you love, we can help.
