CoolSculpting Q & A

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting® is a fat-reduction system that freezes your fat to crystallize and eliminate it from your body. This treatment sculpts areas like your belly, thighs, double chin, and other trouble spots. CoolSculpting is a great alternative to surgical liposuction for many people.

A dermatologist does your CoolSculpting treatment onsite at Associated Skin Care Specialists. There are no incisions or downtime afterward.

How does CoolSculpting work?

Your CoolSculpting treatment starts when your care provider places the applicators just above your fat deposit. Associated Skin Care Specialists offers DualSculpting, the use of two CoolSculpting machines at once, to treat larger areas.

You’ll feel a very cold sensation for a few minutes, but within 5-10 minutes your treatment areas go numb. You may feel a tugging sensation as the CoolSculpting machine uses suction to pull the fat up and freeze it, but it’s not uncomfortable.

You can read, use your phone, watch television, or even doze during your treatment. After treatment, you can immediately return to your usual routine. Your whole treatment takes only 35-60 minutes.

How many CoolSculpting treatments do I need?

You may need just one CoolSculpting treatment, but you may need two or three depending on your specific goals. Your dermatologist designs a treatment plan ideal for you.

Is CoolSculpting right for me?

You’ll meet with your dermatologist to discuss whether CoolSculpting is the best fat-reduction option for you before starting treatment. The ideal CoolSculpting candidates are at a healthy weight, or reasonably close to it, and have good skin elasticity.

If your main goal for the procedure is weight loss, then CoolSculpting isn’t right for you. CoolSculpting reduces fat, but it’s not a replacement for weight loss and doesn’t work like bariatric surgery. CoolSculpting also isn’t surgery, so it won’t remove excess skin.

If you’re not seriously overweight but you still have bulges or areas that just won’t trim down regardless of your efforts, CoolSculpting might be a perfect choice.

How long do CoolSculpting results last?

CoolSculpting is permanent. Once your fat is frozen, it crystallizes and dies over the months after treatment. You’ll see peak results after two months, but you’ll keep shedding even more fat for as long as 4-6 months post-treatment.
